Architecture Week Luncheon |
AIA Central Oklahoma would like to invite you to a special Architecture Week Luncheon on Friday, April 16, 2010. |
Special Guest: Robert M. Rogers, FAIA of Rogers Marvel Architects in New York City. |
Rob is a principal at Rogers Marvel Architects (RMA), the New York based firm he founded with Jonathan Marvel in 1992. With a diverse range of projects, from parks and public spaces to furniture and products with sister company TRUCK, the practice combines innovative materials, spaces, and forms with a commitment to the improvement of the communities in which it works. |
Rogers Marvel Architects, along with West 8 from Rotterdam, won the international competition to redesign Governors Island, a mix of natural and created landscapes that will form a 40 acre World Park. RMA is also in the initial design phases for a 6-acre park with 750 affordable and market-rate units along the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, and is planning a major new corporate and civic campus for SandRidge Energy in Oklahoma City. RMA’s most recently opened project is the Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, a 17,000 square foot LEED-certified complex that includes a sanctuary, social hall, lobby and catering spaces. In the last five years Rogers Marvel Architects has designed many public spaces in downtown New York City, most notably the New York Public Library Mulberry Street Branch, 55 Water Street Plaza and the New York Stock Exchange Streetscapes and Security. RMA is currently designing multi-family housing projects throughout all five boroughs.
Rogers Marvel Architects has won many national, state, and city design awards. As the winner of the 2006 AIA Medal of Honor, New York Chapter’s highest honor, RMA is recognized “for their steadfast commitment to design excellence on all scales ranging from furniture to building to planning and landscape.”
Prior to RMA, Rob built his early architecture career at I.M. Pei & Partners, where he worked on projects around the world, including the Grande Louvre in Paris, the Bank of China in Hong Kong, and the Science Center at Choate Rosemary Hall. At Rice University he won the prestigious Fossi Fellowship and graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor in Architecture. In 1989 he earned his Master of Design Studies degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Rob has taught design studios for nineteen years, first at Pratt and later at Columbia, Harvard and Parsons. He held the Cullinan Chair at Rice in 2004 and has served as a visiting professor at Washington University in St. Louis and Cornell University in New York City. He is currently a visiting critic at Syracuse University. Rob is a GSA Peer and a fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
