1st & 2nd Grade:
The 1st and 2nd grade age group will dive in to the basic elements of architecture: form, shape and color. We will talk about what an architect does and how architecture shapes our communities. We will learn about blending colors, drawing 2-D and 3-D shapes and how colors and shapes come together to make buildings. In learning about how architects design scale models, each kid will get to choose a building to design and create a model of their own. The class will put all of their models together to create a miniature city. After we build scale models the class will come together to create a larger model that we can actually go inside and play! |
| 3rd & 4th Grade:
The 3rd and 4th grade age group will focus on the basic structure that goes into buildings, different building types and the elements that create the exterior look of a building. Using hands-on activities, the students will investigate the diverse building types, the structure behind them and the physical and psychological reasons behind the way they look. Each child will get to focus on a building type of interest and develop it through perspective sketching and model building. They will consider the function, placement, and color of exterior building elements and ultimately how to convey their design in a scale model while considering the relationship of their building in the scope of a neighborhood and a high-rise environment. To reinforce the functional aspects of a museum space, the students will be allowed to tour the museum exhibit space where the class in held.

| 5th & 6th Grade:
The 5th and 6th grade age group will participate in a discussion about the diverse elements and concepts that comprise architecture. After learning about “who” architects are and “what” they do, the students will take a walking tour of downtown to bring the discussion to life. Lessons learned will include architectural styles, history, scale and urban planning, using the rich environment of downtown Oklahoma City as an outdoor classroom. To conclude their experience the students will build a model applying the information learned throughout the day in order to create a cityscape with their fellow students.
